Everyday Wisdom #86

Focus on the positive

Take two minutes every day to write down every detail you can remember about one positive experience that occurred over the past 24 hours.

As our brains can’t tell much difference between visualization and actual experience, by rehashing a high point in the day you double the effect of that positive experience.

Overall, this leads to greater life satisfaction and meaning.

Edited to add this great tip from Pocket Perspectives

Be sure to try the idea of taking some time to actually “feel” that sense of positive, let go of the actual experience, and rest in that positive felt sense for at least 20 seconds, longer if you can…I use that feeling as an “object” of meditation…to let it linger and keep bringing it back…kind of like the breath, but the feeling.

  1. (I used that process repeatedly (!!!) this week during challenging, middle of the night moments and it seems to be helpful…you just never know!)
