Everyday Wisdom #8

Say no to violence

Spend some today thinking about the ways in which you may unconsciously be committing acts of violence.

Do you push yourself beyond your limits?  Physically or mentally?

Do you continue exercising even if you are injured or in pain?

Do you use harsh speech – to yourself or others?

All of these could be considered (non extreme) acts of violence.

Great wisdom and peace can be attained through living a life without violence.

Non-violence means avoiding not only external physical violence but also internal violence of spirit.

A great message. 🙂 One so many need…

  2. I really appreciate your thoughtful understanding of what violence is- particularly the more subtle expressions of violence towards self and others. A barrage of negative thoughts without becoming aware of them- what do you think? Violence?

    • This is such a brilliant question!! :-).

Yes, I definitely think this is internal violence. And I think unfortunately it’s one of the most insidious forms, as the person is not aware of the thoughts, and the damage that they are doing.

      What are your thoughts? 🙂

  3. I’m glad you pointed out the reality of what self-abuse is. You make some good points here. Thank you

  4. I really love this reminder — a reminder that these “non extreme” acts of violence are still watering the seed” of violence. AND a reminder to be mindful of the harshness/violence with which we treat ourselves. Thank you, Meg! Lisa

  5. Thanks for your comments on my blog, they were very kind 🙂

I decided to come check you out.

I love this post about non-violence. It is true that so often we think of violence and non-violence in just one way, and yet, as you’ve shown in this post, it really goes so much further than that. If we are to be true pacifists, it is good that we confront the not so obvious ways within us.

I think this post speaks to such a high truth and you have blessed us all with writing it.

    Thank you!
